Product rendering is used for various purposes – product design presentation, marketing material, posters, product listing, selling page. Often I’m doing it for fun and to show somewhere, because it looks much better than screenshots from CAD software.
For product rendering I use 3D models of existing design that I’ve worked with. I prepare it for visual, separate materials, source all graphics and collect material requirements. Sometimes I don’t need to use actual design which was made for manufacturing and all I need is visual model.
Environment, light, materials, labels, colors, camera effects – everything is important to make final result look decent.
